[JP; 2016] Solo Series | DAY 4 - Arashiyama

DAY 4

1.  Shin-Osaka Station > Kyoto Station > BokuYado ゲストハウス樸宿

Used my JR Pass to purchase tickets to Kyoto Station, really enjoying the JR Pass's unlimited rides convenience!

Upon arriving Kyoto Station, headed straight to the hostel, which was around 20mins walk away from the station. The roads were bumpy, had a difficult time dragging my luggage on the road. But a good point to note, there were hardly any cars on the road to hostel.

I will share more about this hostel in the next post!

2. BokuYado ゲストハウス樸宿 > Saga-Arashiyama Station

Unsure where to go and Kyoto, so I had a small chat with the Taiwanese helper, she encouraged me to go Saga-Arashiyama. So I took a train from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama Station. It was a "free" ride with JR Pass.
Upon exiting from the station, there will be a stretch of shophouses selling yummy food.

I chose to grab some curry from one of the shophouses for my lunch.

3. Saga-Arashiyama Station > Tenryū-ji 天龍寺 > Nonomiya Shrine 野宮神社 > Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

After lunch decided to start walking over to the nearest attraction, Tenryū-ji 天龍寺. It was very crowded due to the weekends. There were tourists from all over the world, lots of different languages, which make me wonder am I really in Japan.

It was just a 10mins walk away from the shophouses near Saga-Arashiyama Station.

You have to pay to enter the premises and the garden. I stood a side and googled what is interesting in the paid area, and it does not really attracted me. So I gave it a miss.

Anyway, there is a shortcut from the garden within Tenryū-ji 天龍寺 paid area, which allows you to have direct access to the bamboo grove.

And since I do not have the privilege to use the shortcut, I decided to follow the crowd and walked over to the bamboo grove.

Before reaching the grove, you will see this small shrine, Nonomiya Shrine 野宮神社.
Nonomiya Shrine 野宮神社, www.nonomiya.com
There is this stone in the shrine that claims to be really accurate. So I followed suit how the Japanese kid infront me did, I cant really remember the steps.. but definitely I did clapped my hands twice, bowed and rubbed my hands on the stone while making the wishes.

Further up the from the shrine, has a stretch of bamboo grove which was much less crowded. (Before reaching the shrine there will be a stretch but usually crowded by tourists)
It was really cooing the further I went up the gentle slope. And till the end of the bamboo grove route there was the internal train which could take you through the bamboo grove. (but the tickets are hard to grab, impromptu travelers like me may not have the luck)

4. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove > Arashiyama Surroundings

Made a turn, and exited from the Bamboo Grove. As it was an impromptu decision to come over. I have no other ideas what Arashiyama can offer me. So I just randomly roamed around the surroundings, walking in and out of those souvenirs shophouses, and even crossing a bridge almost attempted to go for the Monkey Park ontop of a hill -  Iwatayama Monkey Park.
Chickened out because I think I will freak out if the monkeys starts to follow me around.

The whole Arashiyama is selling Matcha related food - Matcha Ice Cream, Matcha Latte, Matcha this and Matcha that. But THEY ARE ALL SO OVERPRICED. To stop my craving, I went into a convenience store and got myself a Matcha Latte, half of the price selling along the streets. Satisfied.
I left Arashiyama pretty soon after I finished the Matcha Latte, because I have looted quite some food souvenirs in my backpack. (It was getting abit heavy after walking for hours)

But those who are interested, Arashiyama Station is a good place to explore. They have this Kimono Forest and Hot Foot Bath. If only I did my research properly, I would have headed there to take a look. ):
